Environmental Product Declaration for Katana Foundations' Steel Screw Piles, 2025–26

Katana Foundations is an Australian company that designs and engineers steel screw pile products used in building foundations. The system transfers building loads from concrete slabs down to the subsurface at a suitable depth, offering an alternative to traditional concrete bored piers across all building classes. Lifecycles was commissioned to develop a single Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) covering Katana's full range of steel screw piles. The underlying life cycle assessment was conducted in accordance with the relevant Product Category Rules for construction products and the General Program Instructions of the EPD program, quantifying environmental performance across the full life cycle of the product, from steel supply and manufacture through to installation and end-of-life.

Results for the client: Both the LCA and the EPD were independently verified and registered on the Australasian EPD Programme, giving Katana Foundations a transparent, credible environmental declaration to share with architects, engineers and certification schemes. The EPD substantiates the environmental credentials of Katana's Australian-made screw piles, manufactured using Australian steel, and provides the evidence base increasingly demanded under Green Star, NABERS and broader sustainable procurement frameworks.

It positions a hidden, below-ground element of the build as a measurable point of environmental transparency.
