Environmental Product Declaration for Capral's LocAl® Lower-Carbon Aluminium Extrusions, 2026
Capral Aluminium is Australia's largest manufacturer and distributor of aluminium extrusions, with a history spanning more than 90 years. Its LocAl® range offers lower-carbon aluminium, made standard across Capral's Building Systems products, enabling the specification of reduced-embodied-carbon extrusions without altering system design, performance or fabrication. Lifecycles was commissioned to develop Environmental Product Declarations for Capral's LocAl® and LocAl® SG mill-finish extruded aluminium profiles. The underlying life cycle assessments were conducted in accordance with ISO 14025, EN 15804:2012+A2:2019/AC:2021 and the Construction Products PCR, covering cradle-to-gate with options plus end-of-life stages (modules A1 to A3, A5, C1 to C4 and D). The assessments quantified environmental performance across every mandatory indicator, drawing on Capral's 2024 primary production data and the upstream aluminium billet EPDs.
Results for the client: The LCAs and EPDs were independently verified and registered on the International EPD® System, giving Capral internationally recognised environmental declarations to share with architects, specifiers and certification schemes. The declarations quantify the embodied carbon of Capral's lower-carbon aluminium, with the LocAl® SG range, made from lower-carbon primary billet, delivering among the lowest embodied carbon of any extrusion available in Australia. They provide the verified evidence base increasingly demanded under Green Star, NABERS and sustainable procurement frameworks, and back Capral's lower-carbon positioning with rigorous, comparable data specifiers can rely on.
